ROSSMOOR TENNIS CLUB
Board Meeting Minutes --- September 15, 2014

Meeting Minutes:

President Mark Patterson called the meeting of the Rossmoor Tennis Club to order at 1:32 PM on Monday, September 15, 2014 in the Ivy Room at the Stanley Dollar Club House.

Present: Mark Patterson, Dick Normington, Dave Kern, Randy Kuhl, Barbara Schwartz, Bill Sederowitz, Les Hoskyns, Gery Yearout, Joyce Niebur, Loc Barnes and Susanne Eldridge.   Absent: Barbara Phillips

President:

  • Mark Patterson motioned for the minutes of August Board Meeting to be approved.    The board seconded the motion.
  • Mark introduced club volunteers Joyce Niebur, Gery Yearout, and Les Hoskyns to report on ongoing efforts to implement the club's website.    The board unanimously approved:  a) to move forward with the initial (static) website, b) to form an Information Technology Committee and  c) to budget $25.00 monthly indefinitely for web hosting and development.

Treasurer: Barbara Schwartz reported that the club is financially strong with a checkbook balance of $14,815.24 as of September 15, 2014.

Vice President: Dick Normington reported that the Rule R106.1 changes that were presented to the GRF Policy Committee in July had been challenged. The GRF Policy Committee requested changes in the area of tennis attire, etiquette, courtesy, and the social area. The final version is under discussion.

Court Engineer/Supplies: Bill Sederowitz advised that RTC purchase 3 clocks for courts 2 and 7, plus a replacement clock for the broken one in the Ivy Room. The board approved the purchase, and GRF staff will install them.

Social Area Committee: Saturday BBQ has been discontinued for this year due to lack of interest.

Shed/Ball Machine Committee: The purchase and installation may be postponed until next year, pending discussion with GRF about budget issues related to pouring a slab for the shed.

Tournaments:

  • Randy Kuhl advised that the Men's Doubles tournament went well, everyone seemed to have fun. Dave Kern was the overall winner.
  • Rossmoor team lost to Trilogy so now we have an empty spot on the wall where the plaque was kept.
  • Rossmoor Turns 50 tournament went well, format was men's and women's doubles. Margaret Logwood and Judy Corliss placed first in the women's draw and Chris Christopher and Larry Fredricks placed first in the men's draw.
  • Calcutta Tournament is scheduled for October 10-12.   Friday October 10 is the auction, and play takes place on Saturday and Sunday.   Dave Sperry is the host with Pauline Hanley as the co-host.   We are still looking for more sign ups for the event.

Secretary: Susanne Eldridge nothing to report.

Publicity: Dave Kern will publicize the Calcutta Tournament again in the Rossmoor News.

Facilities and Maintenance: Jerry McConnell absent

Sunshine: Nancy McConnell absent.

Social: Loc Barnes reported on Sneakers and Spikes Golf Tournament, 51 players and 67 people attended the dinner. The expenses came in under budget with a profit of $442.66. Two cases of wine were added to our inventory for future use.

Membership and Reservations: Joyce Niebur reported we have 270 members to date, 9 being non-residents.

New Business:

Annual service awards were discussed.

A committee will be formed to nominate new board members for the coming year.

Next board meeting will be held 1:30 PM on Monday October 20,, 2014 at the Ivy Room at Stanley Dollar Club House. The meeting was adjourned at 3:29 PM.
