Introduction to the RTC --- A Brief Overview of our Club

History

In late 1969 Charles Hoge invited Rossmoor residents interested in tennis to explore the formation of a tennis club.   They elected officers, initially played at Del Valle High School, and in 1970 the Rossmoor Tennis Club was formed (with no courts).   After years of organizational work two courts were built on Rossmoor Parkway in 1975.   Much has happened since then; many good times have been had and many friendships have been formed.  Click here for more 2018 Event History.

Membership

Today we endeavor to create an atmosphere of fun tennis mixed with social interaction on and off the courts.   We promote good sportsmanship and fellowship.   Our club is a member the United States Tennis Association (USTA).   Rossmoor residents are eligible to join the tennis club to participate in club tournaments, league play, and various social events scheduled throughout the year.  Annual dues, paid by January 1st, are just $30.00 per person.   An optional fee of $35 per year allows use of our ball machine located on Court 2 at the Buckeye Tennis Complex.    Click here for more Membership Information

Tournaments

Many of our tournaments are Saturday-morning events which take place at the Buckeye Tennis Complex in Rossmoor.   These include:  New Members,  Memorial Day,  Chop Suey, Women's Doubles,  Men's Doubles,  Mixed Doubles,  Calcutta,  Halloween,  and  Wild Card Championship  tournaments.   We also participate in several inter-club tournaments each year that are played both home and away.

Social Activities

A great tennis club is not defined by playing tennis alone, so of course we've got to party also.   Our social events take place at a variety of Rossmoor's fine facilities including our Gateway, Hillside, Creekside, Dollar Ranch, and Buckeye Complexes.   Our theme parties include  Valentines Day Party,  Spring Fling,  Summer Picnic,  Sneakers and Spikes event,  Fall Cocktail Party,  and  our annual Holiday party.   We sponsor a weekly Saturday BBQ during the summer months and an annual golf outing in the fall.

Men's League Play

We sponsor a Men’s Senior 60+ Doubles Team (Officially known as Senior Men's Inter-club League or SMIL) which participates with other Bay Area teams (Walnut Creek I,  Clubsport Pleasanton,  Round Hill CC,  Walnut Creek II,  Blackhawk CC,  and Oakland Hills).   These teams schedule both home and away matches for two leagues.   One is played from Fall to Spring, one in late Spring and Summer.   Click here for more about Men's Inter-League Play.

Women's League Play

We sponsor two Women's BALL League Tennis Teams.   The Rossmoor Oaks in Senior B-2 division and the Rossmoor Buckeyes in the new Super Senior C  division.   Click here for more about Women's Inter-League Play.

Facilities

With eight tennis courts, two golf courses, a full-service restaurant and bar, fitness center, and three swimming pools the Rossmoor Tennis Club has all the amenities you would ever want in a tennis club.    Just kidding......  the two golf courses, restaurant, bar, fitness center, and pools are however located nearby within the greater Rossmoor community.   At the Buckeye Tennis Complex we are fortunate to have eight fine tennis courts, a terrific picnic / barbecue area, a generous viewing area, and beautifully maintained grounds.   Our tennis facilities are owned and maintained by the Golden Rain Foundation (GRF).   All Rossmoor residents and their guests are entitled to use the facilities in accordance with rules established by the Rossmoor Tennis Club and approved by the GRF Board of Directors.   Click here for more Facilities Information.

Administration

The business and social affairs of the club are governed by our by-laws and administered by a nine-member Board of Directors.   The Board meets once a month on the third Monday to conduct its business and in March, July, and November holds general meetings  for all club members each year.   These three general meetings give all RTC members an opportunity to participate in decision-making and in the election of new board members.
