RTC Board Meeting --- June 18, 2018 --- Minutes

President - Bernie Wolf

  • Last month's board meeting minutes were approved
  • Ron Wyman presented information on both Realistic and Bakko Wood backboards
  • He also supplied handouts from the respective web sites about these boards.  Realistic product cost around $2855 before taxes.  It comes with 10 year warranty.  Bakko was around $3000.  Installation would cost extra.
  • We will have to submit something to GRF before their December meeting if we want them to pay for this and consider it in their budget.
  • Ideally GRF would like RTC to help finance the project.  DH distributors (who supplied Playmate ball machine to RTC) will do a site evaluation at Buckeye courts and suggest best placement.
  • More studies will be done in next few months;  we may go to Fremont to try the Bakko model

Vice President - Carol Pillsbury

  • Vice President's Report
  • RTC Membership Outreach Committee Meeting
  • Presentation at GRF board meeting 5/31.   Carol gave 3 minute overview of RTC to board.  The Pickelball Club will be looking for additional courts because the Creekside Courts will soon be phased out.
  • Carol recently met with Cinnamon Renvall, Gery Yearout, and Pauline Hanley to discuss the possible formation of an RTC Membership Outreach Committee.   The general consensus was that the Rossmoor Tennis Club is losing membership to the Pickleball Club due to the aging of the Rossmoor population.   Tennis courts at Willow Pass and Rudgear have been replaced with Pickleball courts.  Valley Vista has gone from 16 to 9 tenis courts and is now sharing facilities with Carondolet H.S.   Keeping our membership numbers involves promoting play (many tournaments this year); social events, and our excellent facilities.   Suggested outreach efforts included:
    • A substitute list at kiosk
    • An on-line listing of players who can fill into foursomes when needed
    • A self-rating system may help in this area.
    • Promoting social events with advertisements before and after event at kiosk and on line
    • More email blasts
    • A survey of members about number and types of events
    • Spacing out social events social from competing events by other clubs e.g. Christmas party at same time as many others.
  • Carol suggested this be a committee that meets at least twice a year or as needed.   This committee would include V.P, Social Chairperson, Membership Chairperson, and at least two additional RTC members.   The next step: survey questions at next open board meeting regarding social and tennis events
