East Bay Womens League

There are two Rossmoor Women's tennis teams that compete in the East Bay Women's League.  The goals for both teams are for players to have fun and compete against opponents of similar level skills.  Through team practices, travel to and from matches, and cheering each other on during our matches, we have been building strong sense of community among the players on our teams.  

The Rossmoor Tennis Club 65+ Team  is a travel team, with our team playing each team twice, once at Rossmoor and once away at the opponents home courts. Members of the community are welcome to attend our home matches.

Age:  Eligibility to play starts on January 1st of the calendar year of the player’s 65th birthday. Team members must also be members or the Rossmoor Tennis Club

Rating:  An official USTA rating is not required, but players are generally at a level of 3.5 and above.  The team reserves the right to limit players to those at an appropriate standard. 

Matches: Home matches are always at 10:00 a.m. on Fridays,  and away matches can be on any day between Tuesday and Friday and matches may start at 9:30 or 10:00 a.m.  

League Teams:  There are seven teams in the league.  We play each team once at their location and once at our home courts.  The teams are:  

Schedule:   We play 12 matches between mid September and mid April, which works out to average one home and one away match per month., however, some months have more and some fewer matches.

Court Reservations:  We play four courts for our matches and courts 3-6 are reserved for our matches for the hours of 9:30 - 12:00.  Signs are put out at least two days before to allert the community of the reservation. 

Practices are joint with the B1/B2 team.  See description below.

The Rossmoor Tennis Club B1/B2 50+ Team, is for female Rossmoor Tennis Club members age 50+ who play at the 3.0-3.5 level. This team is named the Buckeyes and is a travel team, with the Rossmoor team hosting each opposing team once, and traveling to the opponents home courts the other time.  The other teams in this league have their home courts in Diablo, El Cerrito, Pleasanton, San Ramon, and two teams in Walnut Creek. Most of the matches start at 9:30. We play 12 matches between October and April, averaging one away and one match per month, but some months have more and some fewer matches.  All of the 50+ team matches are played on Mondays.  The captain of this team is Carrol Pillsbury (cpillsbury1952@gmail.com) and the co-captain is Laura Rosenzweig (laura1@alumni.stanford.edu).  Contact either Carol or Laura for more information.  Home matches are listed on the Calendar Page and members of the Rossmoor community are welcome to come watch and cheer on the team. 

Combined team practices - Mondays at 10:00. When the 50+ team does not have a home match, we have a team combined team practice at 10:00.  The practices consist of two sets of tennis, with a change of partners between the two sets.  The captains discuss who to pair together in a given week, and we seek to give practice time together to pairs who are playing together in an upcoming match. We also use the practice to try out partnerships that the captains think might play well together in a future match.  We also seek to find opportunities to put people together who might not play together in a match so that they can socialize and get to know each other better if they aren't already friends.  Mary Benin (mary.benin@gmail.com) is in charge of the practices, with the help and input from ther other captain and two co-captains.
