This tournament is limited to RTC members who have joined the club since the last time New Members was played. It is a great way to meet other people who have recently joined RTC.
Historically, the number of participants has been 12 to 16 members, but with the rapid growth of the RTC up to 32 people may have to be accommodated! The number of rounds and games played will be determined by sign-ups.
The tournament follows the general outline of the Tournament Common Procedures with the following notes:
This tournament is preferably hosted by the Membership Director
Membership Director works with the Webmaster to identify new members which is defined as those who joined the club in the last 3 years and have not participated in a New Members tournament
Three weeks before the New Members an e-mail is sent to eligible club members and a notice is put in the Rossmoor News that sign ups for the tournament will be available at the kiosk at the Buckeye complex two weeks before the event.
When players arrive to sign in they will be given a number or letter to determine the blind draw.
Men are given numbers; women are given letters
The first two rounds are men driven -- the men pick partner letters from a hat, then play two rounds
The second two rounds are women driven -- the women pick partner numbers, then play two rounds
Various club officers and team captains stop by to explain various aspects before the matches begin and at half time
President overview club, club meetings etc.
Social Secretary on social events
Tournaments director
Coaching leads on clinics
Mens SMIL team
Womens Oaks and Buckeye teams
Webmaster on technology, web site etc.
Partners will play one round together, then move to another court to play with someone else. When the rounds are finished, a tally will be made of each player's games won. First, second and third place get prizes.
After the New Members is over, the director will report the scores to the RTC board member in charge of tournaments who will record the results at the club website for historical purposes. The RTC board member in charge of publicity will make sure that all photos taken are also posted at the site. The pictures and scores will be forwarded to the Rossmoor News for publication.
