President - Larry Barclay

• Roll Call --Larry opened the meeting at 1:35 and all present except for Chris Slee

Vice President - Al Peters

• Al reported that the special award trophies were given to Dave Blanchard and Sherry Endicott with gratitude for their excellent services.
• Secretary - Barbara Landberg--minutes from January were approved.

Treasurer - Ken Steiner reported that from Jan. 1st, 2022 -Feb. 20, 2022 total income was $8681 and total expenses were $1471.05 which left a net income of $7209.95  As of 2/20/22 the checking account balance was $15,379.33

Tournaments -   no report since Chris was not present

Social - David Hickey --42 people signed up for the Valentine's Party. Al Peters took charge since David was sick.

• Only about 5 couples danced so it was suggested that we have fun games next year --possibly combined with karaoke and or a conga line 

Membership - Terry Quinlan  reported that as of February we have 201 members which includes 17 new members since Jan. 1st.

67 people have paid to use the ball machine,  The directory is being printed. We should ask about having the printer make an electronic copy.  Also Amy suggested that if possible we could get the directory printed earlier next year and encourage people to come to the Valentine's Day Party and pick up their directories there.

Facilities - Jerry Quinlan

• Jerry checked all the nets to make sure they were at standard height and one was repaired. He replaced some old balls with new ones in the ball machine. Old balls are donated to Heather Farms. We are averaging about 72 tennis players a day with most games played between 8 and 11.
• David suggested we request a convex mirror be placed across the street from the parking lot for safety and liability reasons. When people are parked on both sides of the street it is difficult to see when making a right turn out of the lot. Jeff Matheson has been notified about our safety concerns.

Publicity - Amy Bollinger

• With things opening up and more events happening, Rossmoor News is getting pickier, and articles need to be condensed

Old Business  Dave Blanchard wrote a very good letter and mailed a copy to GRF, GRF Planning Committee, and Rossmoor News.

  Rossmoor Tennis Club Loves Pickleball

  The Rossmoor Tennis club thinks Pickleball is another great sport for ageing athletes. Many Tennis Club members are also enthusiastic Pickleball players.

  But the Tennis Club opposes converting Buckeye Grove tennis courts into Pickleball courts. Is this because Tennis Club members are selfish or childish? No, it is because there are just enough tennis courts to handle all of the many tennis programs that are conducted on the Buckeye courts.

  Past GRF Boards spent many hours studying Rossmoor’s tennis needs and then spent a substantial sum of money to develop the 8 court Buckeye Grove tennis center. The popularity of tennis in Rossmoor has not declined: dozens of new members the Club every year. The club sponsors all of the same activities that it did when the GRF studies were done.  In the USA tennis is increasing in popularity and medical advances allow us to play longer. So why would it make any sense to take the Buckeye courts capacity back ten years?

  If GRF elects to add 8 Pickleball courts to the existing 8 tennis courts they will need to address significant sound management and parking problems. The Tennis Club thinks it would be better to keep them separate. Yes, they are both racquet sports but Tennis is as much like Pickleball as Golf is like Croquet.

  Tennis Club members hope that GRF will fund a Pickleball facility that all Rossmoorians can be proud of, but not at the expense of setting Buckeye Grove tennis programs back ten years.

New Business

Sunshine person.  Barbara offered to be the person who would send cards on behalf of RTC to members who are ill, or have had an accident or lost a loved one.

Larry received an invitation from the social director of Pickleball for our club members to come to a buffet and Hit and Giggle Party. There was a unanimous feeling that we should take a rain check at this time.  Larry and Al will draft a polite no thank you from the board. 

 Terry and Becky Reiss were reimbursed for printing supplies.

David brought up the idea of a Summer tennis get away for a weekend or longer. Pajaro Dunes (north of Monterey) was a possibility. We would need a place with VRBO houses or condos. We are open to ideas from anyone.

Terry brought up the idea of cultivating women to be on the Board. As people rotate off the Board we will need replacements.

The meeting was adjourned by 3:00 PM  The next Board Meeting will be March 21st at Creekside in the Fairway Room.
