Present: Mark Patterson, Dick Normington, Barbara Schwartz, Randy Kuhl, Bill Sederowitz, Loc Barnes, Barbara Phillips and Susanne Eldridge. Absent: Dave Kern. About 50 club members attended the meeting.

President: Mark Patterson moved for the minutes of October Board Meeting to be approved. The board seconded the motion. The board members introduced themselves to the attendees.

Les Hoskyns and Gery Yearout were introduced and they presented to the attendees the contents of the new RTC website.   The website is now live and can be 'googled' (rossmoortennis.com). The website is now entirely maintained by RTC board members and volunteers.   The presentation was enthusiastically received by the club members.   The cloud fee for the website is $25.00/mo.   To communicate with the club use:   president.rossmoortennis@gmail.com

Court Engineer/Supplies: Bill Sederowitz reported that the repair of the drainage problem on court 5 has been completed, a job well done. The slab for the new shed by court 2 was poured and we have ordered a new 8x10 shed
The contractor will assemble and install the shed. When the shed has been installed the ball machine will be moved and kept in the shed by court 2. New clocks have been purchased and installed at the Creekside courts and all clocks have been adjusted for standard (winter) time.

Tournament Director: Randy Kuhl has been in contact with Round Hill Tennis Club for interclub matches between RTC and Round Hill, tentative dates for the matches are 3/21/15, Saturday at RTC and 7/12/15 Sunday at Round Hill. The board approved the dates pending confirmation from Round Hill.
The club will continue the Trilogy home and away tournament for 2015.

Wild Card: Barbara Phillips reported that the cancelled Champions Playoff of November 1 has been rescheduled to December 6 and the players have been advised of the new date. Next year's wild card tournaments will start on January 3rd, 2015.

Secretary: Susanne Eldridge had nothing to report.

Treasurer: Barbara Schwartz reported that the club is financially strong with a checkbook balance of $13,171.22 as of November 16, 2014. The balance will be reduced by about $3100.00 after we pay for the new shed and the slab that was poured for the shed by court 2. The purchase of a new ball machine is also in the works.

Vice President: Dick Normington reported on the new Rules for Buckeye courts. The rules will be presented to the GRF board on December 2nd. The open tennis will be referred to as Drop In Tennis and will use all 8 courts on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am to 11:00am. Private games may take place if courts are not occupied by Drop In Tennis players.

Publicity: Ron Wyman has taken over for Dave Kern. Ron advised that Mike Ying was looking for players for the match on Wednesday November 26 at Greenbrook. The women's Buckeye team is in 1st place in their B-3 league and the women's Oaks team is doing very well in their B-2 league.

Facilities and Maintenance: Jerry McConnell said the ball machine is in good shape but the Creekside courts are slipping some.

Sunshine: Nancy McConnell advised that Mel Smith is on the mend from his fall and Louise Ng is also doing well.
Nancy thanked Randy Kuhl and Barbara Schwartz for supplying used tennis balls to her. She has delivered the balls to Manor Care and Kindergartens, some balls have been donated to the Police Canine units as well.

Social: Loc Barnes encouraged members to get their reservations in for the December 19 Holiday Party. Gery and Floyd Yearout are the hosts and Gery promised 'the best party ever!'

Membership and Reservations: Joyce Niebur said the application form for membership renewal for 2015 has been e-mailed to the membership and you must have the forms and checks to her soon for your inclusion in the new directory which will be printed as of January 1st, 2015. Additional membership renewal forms were available at the meeting. We have 278 members as of now and that is 30 more than last year. 88 ball machine members. Two new members attended the meeting, Julia Kelly and Gayl Giannik.

Nominations: Pauline Hanley, Committee Chair, presented Ron Wyman and Rolf Kvalvik as nominees to the 2015 board and they were voted in unanimously.

Open Mike, Questions from the Floor:

  • Mary Kay McClure requested a review of the alcohol policy.
  • Dick Normington presented the board's view on the issue of alcohol at parties.   RTC being a sport club and not a social club, the cost should not be borne by 270 members when less than half attend parties, having to rent a storage space to keep the liquor, etc.
  • Nancy McConnell stated she has bought and kept inventory of the liquor for 18 years and has had no problem in the past.   Jerry McConnell stated that many social clubs have 'Happy Hour' before dinners with no problem.
  • Ken Anderson stated we are discriminating against persons who drink hard liquor by only serving wine and beer.
  • Margaret Logwood said she cannot drink beer or wine, but vodka suits her fine.
  • Fred Barnes brought up liability, said State of California does not hold hosts liable unless liquor is supplied to a minor.    GRF serves alcohol at many of their events.   Hard liquor is cheaper than wine.   Rossmoor is built on sharing the costs, everyone pays for golf course, pools, tennis courts, but not everyone uses these facilities.   Fred requested that the board poll the membership and act on the results of the poll.
  • President Mark Patterson assured the membership that the board would revisit the alcohol issue.

Door prizes: were raffled and the meeting was adjourned at 3:05 pm.

The next Board Meeting will be held 1:30 PM on Monday December 15, 2014 at the Ivy Room at Stanley Dollar Club House.

Respectfully submitted by:
Susanne Eldridge, RTC Secretary
