RTC Board Meeting
February 16, 2015 --- Meeting Minutes:

Vice President Randy Kuhl called the meeting of the Rossmoor Tennis Club to order at 1:40PM on Monday February 16, 2015 in the Ivy Room at the Stanley Dollar Club House.

Present:

Randy Kuhl, Barbara Schwartz, Loc Barnes, Ron Wyman , Barbara Phillips, Rolf Kvalvik and Susanne Eldridge. Guest: Frank Haswell. Absent: Mark Patterson and Bill Sederowitz

Vice President:

Randy Kuhl asked for the minutes of January Board Meeting to be approved, Ron Wyman moved and Randy Kuhl seconded the movement.   The minutes were approved.

Guest Frank Haswell, tennis player, Rossmoor resident, tennis coach and one of 17 USTA NorCal Board Members presented the board with some interesting information regarding the USTA.   USTA NorCal is one of 17 regions and has 51,600 members last year and is the #1 region in growth for the last two years.   USTA NorCal has a budget of $855,000.00.   Haswell is a member of the Strategic Planning Committee and Adult League Committee.   The Strategic Planning Committee has a 3 year plan to grow tennis in NorCal by presenting Junior Scholarships and also has $250,000 in grants for a Community Court Renovation Program to resurface courts at High Schools and Jr. Highs to prevent reassignment of the courts to other sports.   To get younger children into tennis they are building smaller courts and using larger, slower and less bouncing balls.   USTA is working on creating a new National Tennis Center at Lake Nona in Florida to train youths.

Court Engineer/Supplies:

Bill Sederowitz was absent. The board will advise him that a new net is needed on court 4.

RTC Information Technology Committee:

The website is now entirely maintained by RTC board members and volunteers.   The Committee is planning a working session later in the month.  The focus will be on getting photo content transferred to the website.

Tournaments:

Randy Kuhl advised that upcoming scheduled tournaments are now on the website.   The sign up sheet for the Round Hill Tournament at Rossmoor Saturday March 21 will be posted by February 28th at the kiosk at the Buckeye Center.

Wild Card:

Barbara Phillips reported that the signed up sheet for March 7th Wild Card is up at the kiosk at Buckeye Center. The February Wild Card was rained out.

Secretary:

Susanne Eldridge nothing to report.

Treasurer:

Barbara Schwartz shows a checking account balance as of 2/14/15 to be $10,435.11.

Vice President/Trophies Report:

Randy Kuhl reported that the Round Hill Team does not seem to be interested in a travelling plaque.
Publicity: Ron Wyman reported that he has a very good rapport with the Rossmoor News staff and is getting more space for his articles and space for more pictures.

Facilities and Maintenance:

Jerry McConnell absent.

Sunshine:

Nancy McConnell absent.

Social:

Loc Barnes advised that the Valentine's Party was attended by about 65 members and guests.   Barbara Phillips and John Lee will be the hosts for the July Barbeque at Sportsmans Park.   Will get quotes from 'Back 40 Barbeque'.
Loc needs volunteers to help set up for the March 16th General Board Meeting.
Rolf Kvalvik is pricing Karaoke machines to be used at some of the parties.   Our two storage lockers at Hillside will be rearranged so we can store some party supplies.

Membership and Reservations:

Joyce Niebur absent but advised the board that the 2015 Membership Directories were mailed out in early February.

Old Business:

The Beverage Subcommittee, Paul Holland, Randy Kuhl, Fred Barnes and Dick Normington recommend to reinstate the policy to serve hard liquor at RTC events.   Details will be presented at the March 16 General Board Meeting.

The next Board Meeting will be a General Board Meeting at 1:30 PM on Monday March 16, 2015 at Creekside Club House.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:00PM.
