Ladies Doubles Tournament Tries out New Format

11 Nov 2024 9:55 AM | Linda Hague (Administrator)

On Saturday, November 9, The Rossmoor Tennis club hosted a ladies doubles tournament with a new format.  Mary Benin, vice president of the club, organized the tournament, using a ladder format where winning players move up a court and losing players move down to a lower court switching partners before play.  Initial court assignments were determined by a random drawing of playing cards.  Rather than playing a certain number of rounds, say five or six “sets" of games, play stopped at 11:00 AM,  and the winning  pair on the highest court are declared winners.  Mary Benin and Terry Quinlan topped the group of 16 players with Becky Reiss and Linda Hague taking second place. Everyone had a wonderful time, and the set up required minimal organization.  It's likely the format will be used for future events.
