Rossmoor Men's Tennis Team Upended at Blackhawk
The Rossmoor Men’s Tennis Team traveled to Blackhawk Country Club for the first match of the new SMIL (Senior Men’s Interclub League) season on September 16. It was a beautiful fall day, although temperatures climbed as the matches continued into the early afternoon. As usual, Blackhawk fielded strong teams to challenge Rossmoor.

Match Results:

Line 1: Chris Slee and Bob Benz battled through a close first set before falling, 5-7, 3-6.

Line 2: Richard Schulman and Aric Ludwig played a solid match but were defeated, 4-6, 2-6.

Line 3: Veterans Larry Barclay and Al Peters played a marathon 1½-hour first set before losing the match, 6-7, 2-6.

Line 4: Irwin Cohen and Paul Chasin earned Rossmoor’s victory when their opponents retired after a hard-fought first set, 7-6, retired.

USTA offers many suggestions for senior recreational and competitive players looking to improve their game. One is to “get one more ball back.” Rather than trying for an extraordinary shot, focus on making your opponent play one more ball. Often, that extra shot is all it takes to win the point.
