There is good news on the resurfacing courts 7 and 8 project. Assuming that the full RWC Board supports the recommendation to fund the project and award the contract to Silicon Valley Paving, we should be able to get the courts resurfaced in the early fall.
In other news, The Rossmoor Women's Tennis Teams are under new leadership for the 2026-2027 season. Both teams compete in the East Bay Women's Tennis League (EBWTL). Becky Reiss is taking over as captain of the age 65-Plus team from retiring captain Mary Benin and Pat Baughman is taking over as captain of the age 55+ team from retiring captain Carol Pillsbury. Becky has lived in Rossmoor and been a member of the Rossmoor Tennis Club for about 7 years, while Pat Baughman has only lived here and been a member for a few months. Both Becky and Pat have years of experience as captains of women's tennis teams. Becky has been captain of many USTA teams in the East Bay area, while Pat has been the captain of many teams in a league similar to our EBWTL league in the Palm Desert area where she lived prior to moving here.
Both Captains are already making a splash with their teammates. Pat has taken over organizing and running the combined teams' weekly practice, while Becky is organizing a potluck and tennis practice party just before the league starts. Both women are strong players, leaders, and tennis enthusiasts. The teams are looking forward to the new season with their new leaders.
I'd like to give a big shout out to Bert and Carol Sebilia for running the July BBQ in Richard's absence and to Lenny Cook for doing the grilling.
The August Wildcard will be held on August 15 and will feature a competition between players who play both tennis and pickleball versus players who play tennis only. There is no prize money, but the winning team will get bragging rights on whether pickleball helps or hurts your tennis game!
We also have an upcoming Club Event which I hope will be fun for everyone in the RTC (actually only 65 of you due to space limitations, but if this year's event is a big hit, we can reserve a bigger room next year). We are holding a viewing party for the men's U.S. Open Final which starts at 11:00. We will serve lunch and it should be fun oohing and ahhing the great shots with your friends. So look for a signup for the viewing party for Sept.13th soon and reserve your seat.

Barbecue on July 25 a Big Success
On a beautiful summer evening on July 26, twenty-five tennis players and guests gathered for a BBQ. Grill master extraordinaire Lenny Cook served perfectly grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, and chili dogs. Club members provided delicious salads and desserts, while music was provided by DJ Rick Sterling. A handful of players worked up an appetite with some friendly tennis beforehand.

Rossmoor Men Complete Successful SMIL Season
Congratulations to Captain Bernie Wolf and Co-Captain Stuart Coffey for leading the Rossmoor Men's Tennis Team through another successful season in the Senior Men's Interclub League (SMIL), which runs from September through July.
Rossmoor competed in 22 matches against senior clubs throughout the East Bay, with 33 club members representing the team during the season. Players participated in anywhere from one to 15 matches, reflecting both the depth of the team and the captains' commitment to broad participation.
The season provided much more than competitive tennis. Players continued to sharpen their games by reinforcing the fundamentals that win doubles matches: move in on the second serve, watch the contact point, beat the bounce, and keep your feet moving. As one teaching professional noted, good footwork becomes automatic only through years of repetition, a reminder that improvement comes with practice at every age.
Just as important, the SMIL season strengthened friendships throughout the league. Competitive matches, good sportsmanship, and post-match camaraderie made another rewarding season for the Rossmoor Men's Tennis Team. Practices continue through the summer as the team prepares for the next SMIL season, which begins in September.

Rossmoor Activities Council Invites Residents to Digital Communications Meeting
The Rossmoor Activities Council will hold a general meeting on Tuesday, August 11, at 10 a.m. in the Fireside Room. Unlike most Activities Council meetings, all Rossmoor residents are invited to attend. Director of Communications Ann Peterson and Web Content Manager Javier Roman are seeking ideas on how Rossmoor's websites, email, social media, and other digital communication tools can better serve residents and clubs.
Feedback from the meeting will help shape a community-wide survey this fall and guide future improvements to Rossmoor's digital communications. Some suggestions may be implemented quickly, while others could require additional planning and collaboration. Club presidents, officers, members, and all interested residents are encouraged to attend and share their ideas.
